Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is the cancer center for the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. It is the only university-based cancer center in South Florida. Its main clinical facility is located in the heart of Miami, but Sylvester physicians treat patients at four other area hospitals and six satellite facilities in the region.
Opened in 1992, Sylvester now treats more than 4,300 newly diagnosed cancer patients per year and handles over 325,000 outpatient visits. The Center offers a fully integrated program of patient care, research, and education to South Florida and to its extended community, which includes the Southeastern United States, the Caribbean, and South America.
The Center’s university base promotes high-level research across a number of critical areas and rapid translation of new discoveries to patient treatments. Sylvester provides comprehensive, coordinated, multidisciplinary care to a wide range of cancers. The Center conducts approximately 200 clinical trials.
